Reflecting On God's Amazing Love

A Christmas Message

Jonathan Knight | Thu 12th Dec 2024
Back in July, one of my daily readings was from Psalm 115:3: “Our God is in Heaven; he does whatever pleases him.” I remember sharing this with our church back then, and it’s been resonating with me ever since. The simplicity yet depth of this verse is profound: our God, who has the power to do anything, chooses his actions with incredible love and purpose.

What I shared that day, and what still strikes me now, is the beautiful reality of what God chose to do with his power. He could do anything he wanted, yet what he chose to do was extraordinary: he sent his only beloved Son down to earth, to live among us and ultimately to die in our place. Why? So that we, as imperfect as we are, might be reconciled to the Father, invited into a relationship with Him that lasts for eternity.

When I think about this sacrifice, I’m reminded of the lyrics from the song Noel by Chris Tomlin. The chorus encapsulates the beauty of what God has done in such a simple, heartfelt way:
“Come and see what God has done…
 The story of amazing love.
The light of the world, given for us.”
These words remind us of the reason for the season. Christmas is a time filled with the beauty of celebration, family, and festive joy, but it can also be hectic and noisy, sometimes making it hard to focus on its deeper meaning. This season, I invite you to take a moment amidst the holiday bustle to reflect on the true significance of Christmas.

Consider this: the Creator of the universe, who “does whatever pleases him,” chose to send his only Son, not just to live among us, but to sacrifice his life for us. Just think about what value God places on you and me—each of us uniquely, individually loved.

So, as we celebrate this Christmas, let’s pause to marvel at the amazing love of our God. This incredible story is for each of us, inviting us to draw closer to the One who values us beyond measure.

Wishing you a blessed and joyful Christmas from all the elders at Jubilee.
